Your Data Rights:
The Shelf Manifesto
Follow these links to our Privacy Policy & Terms of Service.
We built this to service to help protect your privacy by giving you more control over your digital life. With Shelf, you can establish your own privacy persona — a set of preferences and instructions about how you want Shelf to share data about you across the digital ecosystem.
Here is our stance:
You control data about you and your preferences. Data about you is created by your life experiences, interests and interactions. You should be able to choose how this data is accessed and used.
You determine who sees what. You should have the freedom to decide how this data is shared. We aim to give you that control by allowing you to direct whether and how interpretations of this data is shared — kept private, or accessed by specific people and services you trust.
You benefit from the use of data. The insights and value gained from information about you and your preferences should be shared with you and those who you direct Shelf to share with - not only used for the profit and power of big companies. We believe data should be leveraged to serve you, as an individual.
You have the right to action your preferences. With Shelf, you can grant or revoke access to any slice of data as needed — including to Shelf — so that data is used according to your preferences.
Knowledge is power. You deserve transparency around how data is gathered and used so you can understand the implications and make informed choices. We openly share details about our data practices in simple terms.
Security and privacy are priorities. We work hard to safeguard your data and imprlement measures to help keep it secure, because your trust and safety are immensely important to us. You can read more about the measures we take here.
We support broader data rights. Koodos Labs, the creators of Shelf, advocate for laws, policies and ethical standards that put you - the individual - in control of your privacy persona and digital life. Your rights matter more than any company's profits or ambitions.
We believe in you. Behind the data are real people with agency, autonomy, creativity, experiences, and purpose. We build technology meant to empower you - not exploit or manipulate you. Your choices, privacy and freedoms drive the purpose of Shelf and its creators.
We are always learning and improving. As an early-stage company, we know we won’t be perfect. We aim to be transparent in how we are managing complexity and limited resources as we establish our business. Your patience, feedback and trust in our intentions help us grow as empowered technology providers and responsible partners supporting your data stewardship. Change takes time - so we appreciate you coming along with us on this journey.
We hope this manifesto gives you confidence in how seriously we take your rights and interests as a Shelf user.
But more than that, we hope it contributes to the broader movement putting people - not algorithms - at the center of decisions about data use and technology. Your life, your data choices. That is our stance.
